Our "Why"

In meeting with school administration and current PowerZone staff, Faith Connection Church discovered the absence of a Friday option existed because of staffing and funding issues. The current staff for PowerZone is primarily teachers, and they are ready for a break and to go home by Friday. So we saw this an an opportunity!

What if our church organized and got the community involved in volunteering to fill the need for a that final day of kids' activities for the week? Not having a Friday after school option puts families in a difficult position to figure out childcare for that one time a week. PowerZone has seen great success in the last several years - so we know the opportunity exists. We desire to fill a small hole in the system that we know already works great, in order to help out families even more. Faith Connection Church has a mission to "go and be the church" outside the building we meet in, and we want Faith Friends to be part of that mission.

Several families are used to sending their kids to an after school program Monday - Thursday, so having a Friday option is ideal to round out the week. But it will be unique in that it is faith-based, and entirely separate from PowerZone.

There have also been significant studies done on the influence on children by adults outside the family unit - and how care for those children by adult that are not in their immediate family can positively impact a child's life in the long term. Having adults outside their family invest in them reenforces the truth that all children matter and are loved deeply by God. We take this opportunity as more than an opportunity - but as a responsibility - to help build up our community, one that already highly values children and their well-being.
